Katrina Story #1

This man told me the story of how he and his brother, who is wheelchair-bound, rode out the storm at home. The first part of the storm passed, and his brother rolled outside, thinking it was over. But it was just the eye. With the second half of the storm came the water. Eighteen feet, to be exact.

The wall of water pushed the man out of his wheelchair back into the house, and into a rocking chair that floated. The two men punched a hole in the ceiling and floated up into the attic, where the water came up to their noses, leaving them only a few inches of space to breathe. While they were floating there, they saw poisonous snakes and even a large alligator swimming around.

When the water receded ten hours later, they were stuck in the house for three days before help came. This man is in his 70’s. His brother died about a year ago.
